Tradition and innovation
Trends come and go – in this respect the food industry is not very different to other industries. However, Brandenburg food producers stand for values that never go out of fashion: quality, regionality and sustainability. One in every ten farms in Brandenburg farms organically, the highest rate in Germany.
Abundance of know-how and experience
The Food Industry Cluster aims to pool the know-how and experience of companies, science, associations and local government and make it available to all players in the industry. Specific aims are to improve the competitive position, external image and transfer of knowledge and technology. Here the aim is to achieve a balance between tradition and innovation: traditional farmyard selling and modern distribution logistics are not mutually exclusive, no more than organic farming and openness to new technologies.
Eberswalde: an ideal location
Eberswalde, with its agricultural hinterland, is an ideal location for companies with links to agriculture. At the point where food, agriculture and sustainable energy production meet, there are promising opportunities for the establishment of new value chains. Several hundred people work locally in the food industry. A number of large food companies, some with a long tradition, are concentrated here. They specialise in particular in meat and sausage processing, the production of baked goods, agricultural trade and animal feed production. A source of fresh ideas for the industry is Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development, which has recorded great success in among other things the area of organic farming.
The company has produced sausage specialities using its own recipes and the best ingredients for more than 30 years. The “Original Eberswalder Würstchen” brand is particularly popular and well-known in the region and beyond. More than 3 million sausages are produced per week.
